The band Paul McCartney and John Lennon were in was called "the Beatles" and it was popular in the 60s and broke up in 1971 or something like that.

He wrote the song in response to the death of his 2 year old son when he fell out of a window and fell something like 20 or 30 stories to his death (this was confirmed by Snopes, so it's not an Urban Legend like so many of these stories are). So sad.

This song was played at my girfriends uncles wake. My brother in law who is an outstanding guitarist played this impromptu with respect to his uncle and to soothe his cousins. I tell you this the sons of the deceased man were brought to tears and afterwards they were smiling, it helped them heal. It ended a beautiful night and all reminiscing about a real man who I helped carry to his grave.
